Quality pyramid

The tip of the pyramid represents the top wines from the winery’s best vineyards whose grapes are used to make dry, great growth wines as well as a limited number of fruity-sweet superior quality wines. At less than 45 hectolitre per hectare the yield is very low and the wines belong to the national and international top performers. The great growth varieties that have been approved for the Palatinate region are limited to Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.

The middle segment covers the wines from a classified site or with classified origin. Only wines made from traditional grape varieties cultivated on recognised high-quality sites or terroirs are allowed to feature an appellation (legally defined and protected geographical indication used to identify where the grapes for that wine were grown). The yields musts not exceed 60 hl per hectare.

The third layer is the estate wines. These are everyday wines for the discerning that perfectly reflect the regional terroir. The yield must not exceed 75 hl per hectare.
